New Christmas Tradition...Gingerbread House Decorating

We needed a fun activity for the weekend, so I decided the Hickman's were going to decorate Gingerbread houses!  This was a lot of fun for my son, Cory James and his girlfriend, Ingrid.  My husband was busy making an amazing Mexican dinner for us all..but joined in the fun by making us windows and doors for the houses.

This is a picture for Cory and Ingrid's creative house.  If you look closely, a corner of the roof is missing.......at some point the roof cracked and Cory ate it.
This was my hubby and mine.  Of course...we are traditionalist.  I think I will be pinning Gingerbread houses so we are really ready for next year!

Back of the houses...apparently one of the houses eats little boys and girls.

Things to do...Rock Girl getting Organized!

Trying to Get Better Organized in July!

Here are some areas to help me focus on this month, maybe some of them will help you too!  I am heading back to school this summer and I think  I need a plan of attack in order for myself not be get too overwhlmed with all that needs to be get done!

I am trying to better focus and use my time more effectively.  Are you like me?  Are your weekends flying by without getting much accomplished?

Maybe this list will help us both!  This list was inspired by simplify101.com, an awesome organization site.

  • Set my goals for the month of July.
  • Make my to-do list and check it twice!
  • Organize my 8.5 X 11 paper stacks.
  • Declutter + organize my bill folders.
  • Set- up a recipe binder full of my favorite recipes.  (Personally, I like to pick 2 new recipes to try each week.  One is always a Weight Watchers meal.)  If a recipe is a flop, I toss it!

  • Make a list of all the household and outside projects to be completed.
    • Wash windows
    •  Weed the yard!

    • Celebrate Fourth Of July!  BBQ and Fireworks!

    • Clean grill.
    • Study for Final Exam

Upcycled Soap/Cake Stand for my kitchen.

    Being inspired by Pinterest!

Let's be honest here.....how much do you love Pinterest?  ( I LOVE IT!!!!)
Now, have you actually made something you pinned?
(Ahhhh, is that a sound of little crickets chirping in the back ground?)

I try to make at least one or two things that I have pinned as inspiration in hopes to recreate a "Bobbi" version myself.

I saw my pin and knew this was my next project!  Off I went to my local Good will and for only a few dollars was able to purchase a silver candle holder and a glass platter! ( I think the glass platter was actually a candle holder for one of those jumbo candles).

I used E-6000 to glue the glass plate to the silver candle holder.
The 3 knobs made centering this piece so easy!  Loved it!

Now to choice a color I had a choice of yellow, red, or black.  Since my kitchen is in the French Chef theme all 3 colors would have worked if the right shade to match....since I was using spray paint my opitions were limited.  I decided a nice satin black bronzed spray paint would work!

I went off into my "woman" cave, aka the garage,  and got busy painting!

First was to apply a primer coat!  I always recommend a primer coat for better coverage and long term durability!  Paint, paint, and paint.

This project was super easy and a great first time project for anyone new to spray painting, upcycling or crafting!

The worst part of the whole process was WAITING in between coats for drying.  Thank goodness that spray paint dries super quick for impatient people like myself!  Below is my new soap dish!

My Pinterest Pinned inspiration which was in my "For The Home" board.
    So what do you think?
    Do you like it?
I think that I will be adding a little ribbon around it  and call it done!

Let me know your thoughts and/or share with me your
last Pinterest inspired project! I would love to hear from you!

    Birthday
    Special Wrapping
    and
    Packaging Ideas
    Spa Birthday Card
Okay I will admit it...I am one of "those" people.  I love giving gifts and surprising people, however, I bag it and go.  (You know what I mean people!)  I tend to get cute gift bags and some tissue paper and call it a day.

However, I really love it when someone spends a lot of time making a present feel special for me!  My friend Christine Marting is a gift wrapping genius and I have to say, no pun intended "gifted" in this department.  I am working on my gift giving presentation skills.  Here is a my attempt of special packaging of a "SPA" gift basket.

    Spa Birthday Card

    Spa Gift Tag

    Spa Gift Card Holder

Leave a comment on my blog sharing your favorite thing to do on your birthday and your name could be drawn to win this Spa set including the basket of goodies!

Sugar Skull Art: Her name is Gladys

Here is my new addition to my Sugar Skull Art collection.
    This piece is called "Gladys".
Her smile is welcoming and her eyes are like pink Gladiolus flowers.
She is looking for a good home and will not take too much room.
Gladys is painted with high quality acrylic paints, including shimmering paint.  Sadly you cannot see Gladys shimmer and shine from this photo, but the paint used has a silver shimmer.
Gladys was all hand painted on artist canvas measuring 6 x 8.

If you are interested in purchasing Gladys please send me an email.

Pinterest Sunday! How to Paint Furniture-Dresser

The dresser was purchased from my local Good Will for $19.99
The Plan is to repaint this in a vintage "hip" color so I can replace an old
Ikea desk in my craft studio with this dresser.

    Love the details!

    Remove the hardware.

I gently sanded the dresser down, just enough to remove the lacquer shine only!
Do not go crazy on this process because you do not have to scratch it up!

I used Zinsser Cover Stain Primer/Sealer to prime the entire dresser.  I prefer the paint over the spray paint personally, but if it is a small project, the spray paint may be the more  affordable choice.

    Looking Good!
Now time to pick the paint....

    AQUA BLUE?

    APPLE GREEN?

    WATER MELON PINK???

    YEP!!!

Keep Painting....I painted this with 2 coats.  This process does require a little patience, cause you want to give each coat at least 24 hours to dry!

     All done!
I used paint mixed from Walmart in a satin sheen.
Adding a little more modern touch to my piece I  updated the drawers new some new silver knobs.
Now its ready to store all my fabric and office supplies!

    Pink-a-lious!
The color turned out exactly how I imagined and dresser
fits in perfectly into my vintage style craft studio.
