1950's Inspired Apron

Happy Days to you!  I hope y'all are enjoying the warm sunshine of summer so far.  I can happily report that Chicago has been quite mild so far and I am completely enjoying it, rain or shine my HS has been under control!

I have been extremely busy for the last few months working every weekend on orders and organizing my hubbie's 40th birthday party.  I am glad to report that this weekend has been "order free " and I designated it as this Rock Girl's craft time!  Don't get me wrong, I love my work and the ability to give my creative juice to others, but sometimes a Rock Girl needs some time to create for herself too!

A box has been sitting in a corner of my studio for too long and it was beckoning me to open it!   I was finally going to open my new Brother Sewing machine which my hubbie purchased for me for Christmas last year and get a project done for myself!  I have been dying to make a 1950's inspired apron.  (Joann's has patterns on sale for the next few weeks!  This week it was McCall patterns) I located a McCall's pattern that I fell in love with, #M6365.   As you all know, I love the Rock-A-Billy prints and colors, so I choose cherries and black and white polka dot fabric.

I was surprised that after 10 years of non sewing that I was able to complete this project!  REALLY SURPRISED!  I totally loved the experience and am wondering why it took me so long to get back into sewing!

Now, let me say this first and lastly,   I am not a Sewing Queen! So please don't judge too harshly on my creation.  I'm just glad I was able to complete it without it ending up in the trash due to frustration and disgust!

There a lot of areas that should be more tidy and straight, but never the less, I love my new apron and even impressed my hubbie!  Brett was wonderfully supportive thru my sewing process and was super surprised of the outcome.  I have to admit, I wore my apron for the rest of the evening which he found really funny too!

Here is my apron!

I am moving forward on to my next sewing project which is more complex than I expected, however, still loving the process of creating something from nothing! It is Sunday's and probably the remainder of the week project for this Rock Girl.   I am creating a baby doll shirt/dress to go over leggings.  These are the 2 fabrics I will using to create the dress.  The floral print is for the bodice part and the pink will be the skirt!  Can't wait!  I just hope after all said and done I can wear it!  Fingers Crossed!

Surfs Up at Rock Girl Designs

Hang 10!
Here is a great fun-in-the sun card.!  I left the inside blank so the giver can add their own seniments.

I love the Hawaii themed paper used.  I think the summer cool water colors:  aqua, periwinkle blue, apple green, and white are a perfect color combo.  The surfer boy and words "Hang 10" are from Close To My Hearts stamp set called "Hang Ten".
I hope everyone is enjoying thier summer so far!

If you are interested in purchasing this card, please email me!  It's only $2.50 w/ $.50 shipping.

Just a check in

Hi everyone, sorry I have not posted too much in the last week.  We had a huge party for Brett, my husband to celebrate his turning the big 40!

We had the party at my in-laws and they live about 1.5 hours away.  I was responsible for all the decorations and the picture boards.  It was exhausting but well worth all the effort.  Brett really enjoyed his special day!

Here are just some pictures of the party!  Enjoy!
 Monkey Birthday Cake for hubbie!
This is my husband's birthday cake.  We used his baby picture as the face of the monkey!  It was not only an adorable designed cake but tasty too!

No more monkeys jumping on the bed!
I created 40 monkeys for the lawn...this picture was taken before shipped off to my In-Laws.

Monkey Cakes
I will never claim that baking is something I love to do or that I am good at!  I made chocolate cupcakes with banana frosting (thanks Christine for the help making the frosting!) They were a huge hit at the party and everyone loved them!
My hubbie enjoying his "monkey juice".

The monkey party theme was fun.  I am so glad and grateful that I have this big, funny, loving, caring guy in my life!  Happy Birthday Brett!

Thankful Thursday! Happy Father's Day Gift Card Holder

Wallet Gift Holder
Hi Everybody!  Happy Thankful Thursday!

Welcome to Thankful Thursday!  The challenge this week was to create something for Father's Day!  I don't if your Father is hard to purchase gifts for as mine, but gift giving for my Dad always seems hard!  I know my Dad is the most appreciative person I know and ends up loving anything I get him!  Thanks Pops!

This year I am purchasing a gift card for him, but wanted to make a wonderful presentation for it.  I created this cool men's wallet to house my Dad's gift card.

It was really easy to make and I think it turned out stunning.  The love all the brown ink that gave the wallet its aged look.  I used brown card stock cut 8 1/2 x 3 1/2 folded in the middle.  I used a texture stamp with a dark brown for the wallet texture and used a "Happy Father's Day" stamp that I used with clear embossing powder.  I pierced all along the sides of the outside of the wallet and added black ink to give the impression of sewing.  Lastly, I added some pockets inside the card to house the gift card!

Thanks So Much card

Here is a card I created in an Archiver's workshop.  I love going to these to get new ideas and the ability to play with some new products!

I love this card for its simplicity and color palette.  I tend to gravitate toward black and white patterns against any color.  I think it is the color "popping" that I love so much.

Have a great day!

Pretty In Pink Card...Merci!

It is always good to know how to say  "Thank You" in every language!  Cuttlebug embossing templates by ProvoCraft....they make it so easy for me!  Here, I am practicing.....Thank You, Thanks, Merci, Gracias!

I embossed  pink cardstock with the template...now it is pretty in pink!
I am obsessed with anything Paris/Eiffel Tower related.  (I am thinking it might be my next tattoo!)
I used Lasting Impressions brass template called Eiffel Tower 4 X6 as shown.

I dry embrossed on black paper and than grunged it up with my sandblock. Added the tower with 3 demensionals!  Ooh La-La!
