Thankful Thursday: Birthday Special Wrap and Packaging Ideas

Birthday
Special Wrapping

Spa Birthday Card
Okay I will admit it...I am one of "those" people.  I love giving gifts and surprising people, however, I bag it and go.  (You know what I mean people!)  I tend to get cute gift bags and some tissue paper and call it a day.

However, I really love it when someone spends a lot of time making a present feel special for me!  My friend Christine Marting is a gift wrapping genius and I have to say, no pun intended "gifted" in this department.  I am working on my gift giving presentation skills.  Here is a my attempt of special packaging of a "SPA" gift basket.

Thankful Thursday Design Team: Back to School:Make a special note for their lunches!

Hi Everybody!  Happy Thankful Thursday!

Welcome to Thankful Thursday!  The challenge this week was to create a special note to be packed to your child's lunch pack for the first day of school.

Gosh, I really loved this idea, I know I sent Cory off to school each year just as nervous as he was!  All through grade school I always sent him off to school with his backpack filled to the brim with all his new school supplies and a new lunchbox and always sent him off with a little special note tucked inside.  I will be honest, it was never a card or anything that fancy...just a simple post-it note.

Here is a series of little 3x3 notecards I created using some of Stamps by Judith stamps.  Since my son is now 20 years old, I am not sure that he would appreciate a little note in his lunch bag anymore! Maybe you are never too old?  Knowing Cory James, he would think that I have lost my mind!  Anyhow.....I  hope you enjoy these little notes and maybe it will inspire you to create a few!

Thankful Thusday Design Team! Summer Reading

Hi Everybody!  Happy Thankful Thursday!

Welcome to Thankful Thursday!  The challenge this week was to create a bookmark in celebration of summer reading!

I grew up with a learning disability and thru some awesome teachers, I learned to read and was taught some great life skills in the process.  Today I still follow the same tools they taught me 30 years ago!

During the process of dealing with my disability, I fell in love with reading it has become an essential part of my daily life.  I dedicate 20 minutes a night to reading as to keep the cobwebs growing.  The one thing I am most proud of is sharing my love of reading with my son, Cory James....I taught him that even when money is tight, pick up a book and you can visit or have an adventure for free!

Here is my project:

Thankful Thursday! Happy Father's Day Gift Card Holder

Wallet Gift Holder
Hi Everybody!  Happy Thankful Thursday!

Welcome to Thankful Thursday!  The challenge this week was to create something for Father's Day!  I don't if your Father is hard to purchase gifts for as mine, but gift giving for my Dad always seems hard!  I know my Dad is the most appreciative person I know and ends up loving anything I get him!  Thanks Pops!

This year I am purchasing a gift card for him, but wanted to make a wonderful presentation for it.  I created this cool men's wallet to house my Dad's gift card.

It was really easy to make and I think it turned out stunning.  The love all the brown ink that gave the wallet its aged look.  I used brown card stock cut 8 1/2 x 3 1/2 folded in the middle.  I used a texture stamp with a dark brown for the wallet texture and used a "Happy Father's Day" stamp that I used with clear embossing powder.  I pierced all along the sides of the outside of the wallet and added black ink to give the impression of sewing.  Lastly, I added some pockets inside the card to house the gift card!

Thankful Thursday! In Honor.......

Hi Everybody!

Welcome to Thankful Thursday!  The challenge this week is to Honor someone special with a display.  May 30th is Memorial Day, so please take a moment to say a prayer to all the men and women that have and do serve our country.

In honor of Memorial Day, I created a layout of my husband's grandfather, Forrest Bud Smith.
He loved the service and was proud to be part of the 12th Armored Division Association (Hellcats).  He attained the rank of Master Sergeant.  He received several honors and award in his life for his serve to our country.  Forrest's division was the first to shoot fire at the Nazi's in World War II.

Brett's grandfather sadly past on January 1, 2003, it was a bitter sweet day because it is also our son's birthday.  I wanted to take a moment and create a layout honoring him and his legacy.

Thankful Thursday! Happy Mother's Day Topiary Project

Hi Everybody!
Welcome to Thankful Thursday!  The challenge this week was to create a "Mother's Day" project.  Here is the project that I made with my family member:

My little friend,  Lindzi, came over to create an awesome Mother's Day gift with me.  I gave several ideas for Mother's Day gifts, this is what she decided to make....

A Mother's Day Topiary

Supplies:
1 wooden rod, 1 clay pot, 1 Styrofoam ball, 1 square Styrofoam block, acrylic paint, paint brushes, paper, rhinestones, hot glue gun, and Cricut's Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge

I apologize, but apparently I did not save my pictures of the first few steps we did!

For safety, I hot glued the Styrofoam block onto the clay pot for Lindzi.  Hot Glue is dangerous for everyone, including adults....I wanted to make sure I sent Lindzi home unharmed so she can come back and craft with me again!

We stuck the Styrofoam ball onto our wooden stick and Lindzi painted it with acrylic paint.  The paint was the same color as the flowers she made with the Mother's Day Bouquet to hide any gaps around the ball.
Once the ball was painted, Lindzi painted the wooden rod as well.  We put that off the side for drying, it only takes about 10 minutes to dry when using acrylic paint..PERFECT FOR a 10 year attention span!
We moved on to painting the clay pot.  Lindzi is an artist and has been recognized at her school too for her awesome work!  She decorated her pot with hearts, peace signs and of course  " I love Mom"
Once the pot was dry, we placed the rod into the Styrofoam block, for extra security I added a dab of hot glue to the end.

Lindzi choose to decorate her topiary with the Flower#9 from Cricut's Mother's Day Bouquet, we made 25 flowers at 2" .  Lastly I added the hot glue  and Lindzi used the "magic stick"  (a bamboo skewer) (Lindzi informed me that my "magic stick" was not magically at all, but just a stick), to hold the flowers in place as the hot glue cooled into place.  We simply added different blue rhinestones to the flower centers!  Lastly, we added little clear glass marbles to cover fill in the flower base and added a little ribbon around the stem!

I think Lindzi agreed that this was an awesome Mother's Gift for her mom, Inger!
